About this item
Our extra-large, premium alpaca dryer balls are handmade on our small family farm in Southwest Washington, where we sustainably source from our very own herd with no added chemicals or dyes.
WHY XL SIZE?
We developed these XL balls after customers with large capacity dryers and heavy bedding asked for a more powerful option. At 3.5-4 inches in diameter (compared to our standard 2.75-3 inch balls), they're about 50% bigger and significantly more effective for large loads.
These work beautifully for king and queen size comforters, heavy towels, sleeping bags, and oversized blankets, anything that needs extra help circulating air and reducing drying time.
Many of our customers use a combination approach: 3-4 standard balls for everyday loads, plus 1-2 XL balls when washing larger items. The two sizes work perfectly together.
ABOUT ALPACA FIBER
We chose to work with alpaca fiber instead of traditional wool for several important reasons. Alpaca is naturally hypoallergenic because it contains no lanolin, the oil in sheep's wool that can trigger allergies and create that distinctive "wet wool" smell.
Alpaca fiber is also incredibly durable. These XL balls are more dense than wool, which means they maintain their shape and effectiveness through years of heavy use. We've had customers report using their alpaca dryer balls for 3-4 years without any degradation.
The fiber we use comes from small family ranches in our region. Alpacas are gentle animals with a minimal environmental footprint, and their fiber is one of the most sustainable textile materials you can find.
HOW TO USE XL BALLS
For large loads like king-size bedding or comforters, use 2-3 XL balls alone. For maximum efficiency with oversized items, try using 2 XL balls plus 2-3 standard size balls, our customers report this combination cuts drying time significantly.
You can also add a few drops of essential oil to any ball for a light, natural scent. The larger surface area of the XL balls holds scent a bit longer than standard size.
